All we know is that a great deal of chaos, pain, humiliation, and violation are mixed in with the wonders we encounter here. I personally think most of it turns out to be worth it, but that makes little difference to people subjected to it against their will, either because they are prisoners or because they need their deals so badly that they are operating under duress.
Our task, the task he hired us for, is worthwhile, but that does not make him reliably benevolent, and you'll suffer a bit less if you learn that quickly.
