[PRIVATE TO: Peter Parker]
It's official, I'm the worst Warden to ever disgrace this boat. Has the Admiral ever expelled someone from here before? I'd like to prepare myself.
[spam: for Mason]
[ finding Duke's room was easy enough. apologizing and trying to make rational sense of what exactly happened absolutely wasn't easy at all. it was embarrassing and insane and it's probably selfish of her to be taking the whole situation so personally, but she is. she's taking the blame, she feels so ridiculously responsible for Mason's actions already. temporary Warden or not, she was supposed to be making sure he was behaving, and this- wasn't. behaving. at all. and maybe she hadn't asked the right questions, she wasn't briefed enough. she'd do just about anything to get her hands on Mason's file, so she can just read everything she had to know, study it and memorize it and come up with a plan, but for now she had to rely on Mason's honesty and willingness to share information that could be useful in his rehabilitation, which was
obviously turning out to be a lot trickier than she thought it would.
still, she's not feeling nearly as uppity or motherly-disappointed as she was when she first discovered the network post about him, so that's good. she's following him back to his room so she can see what else he's managed to steal from the other passengers ( so. not. good. ), as well as his general living conditions. hadn't she read something about people's rooms being a good representation of how they handled everyday situations somewhere? ah, who knows. she's kind of grasping at straws at this point, trying to figure out if she can actually handle this, or if the Admiral bringing her here was a huge mistake. so she's just walking with him quietly for now, waiting until they're in his room before starting in on the dozens of what were you thinking questions she has in store for him. ]

The trek back to his room is long and meandering. Mason really can't get a grip on where he lives any more. Still, the longer he's on the Barge the shorter amount of time it takes him to eventually stumble across his room, but it still takes longer than necessary and they end up on the wrong floor twice.
When he kicks in the door - lost his keys, lock is busted - the sight that greets Gwen is less than she might have hoped. It's George's old apartment that Mason had traded for; the stained Murphey bed, sans bedsheets, with the springs coming out of the mattress; the cracked tv with the rabbit ears; the inexplicable band posters either Mason, George, or the dead kid who owned the apartment before either reaper had put up.
What's fairly obvious are the piles and piles of other people's stolen clothing, gathered in one massive heap in the center of the floor]

Why what, love?

That's the definition of other people's clothing, Gwen. Not mine.
And no, I am not stealing just to steal. That would be fucking pointless, yeah?
They're for a friend. And also they're for not doing laundry ever again.
no subject
Not wanting to do laundry doesn't seem worth that, to me.
no subject
Locked up? Just for nicking a few shirts no one was using?
no subject
[ ehhh she doesn't know that for sure. but she's got a great poker face. ]
-- Has it only been clothes? Or have you been taking valuables too? Jewelry, that kind of thing?
no subject
[Mason, on the other hand, has a terrible poker face]
no subject
That said. I'm going to take all of this back to my room and post to the network so people can come collect their things. And I think you should be there to apologize when they do. [ POINTED LOOK!! ] Which is going to be awkward but you've earned yourself a little awkward, doing all of this.

[Defeated, Mason gives an embarrassed nod, dragging his pillow closer]
Do I have to? All of it? Only I don't know if I can.
There's this, uhm. This girl.

She's very pretty, an' I offered to, y'know. Get her clothes and jewelry and things.

There are way better ways to impress a girl than stealing things for her. I'll even help you with that, if you want. Finding a better way to woo her. [ YES "WOO" ] But you can't steal things from people here. It's the kind of thing we can't really even negotiate, either. Especially because, mm, think about it. If someone stole a shirt you really loved, and you saw them walking around wearing it, would you just let that go? We might be on this big boat, but it's not that big, so they definitely would spot you wearing their clothing. There's no- tactful way about doing that, especially for another person. It just won't work. Anyway.
[ so many rambles! ]
We need to bring Dr. Banner his pendant back. Do you have it here, or did you give it to someone?
no subject
...All right, love. You raise a fair point. I tried to give it to Winston - [the dog. He tried to give a dog a necklace] - but Alana wasn't having any of it.
[And he withdraws it, somewhat guiltily, from his pocket]
Here. It's not like she could wear it around anyway, what with half the Barge knowing I took it.
no subject
[ but she won't get into that because ahaha nnopppeee.
Alana? just.. locking that name away, for now. Winston, too. but only because she doesn't know Winston is a dog. ]
Thank you. [ she takes the pendant and grips it tight, giving Mason a small smile for it. yay for doing the right thing! ] Okay, now, to prevent all this- [ she's pointing to the pile of stuff from happening again, I'm going to say right now that we're going to have a laundry day, once a week, that you can't skip. I don't care if you wore the same outfit for a whole week, you're going to wash it. And I'll be there to make sure you did it. It will be a part of the deal you have with Iris. She's been- providing you with marijuana, right?

[Mason's face falls at the idea of being watched while he does his laundry. So far he's been able to con Gary into doing the majority of it]
Actually, it was vodka. I didn't even know pot was on the menu, so to speak.
You don't need to watch me, Gwen. Really. I can take care of matters by myself!
no subject
I'm not going to watch you, I'm just going to do my laundry at the same time that you do. Every week. Until you figure out a routine.
no subject
Yeah, I'll pass.
no subject
[ huff ]
Please.

[ BUT LET'S NOT GO INTO DETAILS ]
You're not getting out of this, sorry to say. In fact, I think we're done discussing it. [ like that'll work... ] I'm going to bring this back to Doctor Banner, and you have a week to go on the network, admit that you took those people's things, and offer to let people go through it to reclaim their clothing. If it's still not up after a week, I'll do it for you, and make sure to be as embarrassing as humanly possible. ..And we'll also do laundry that day too.

Gwenny, that's not really fair, is it? I mean, take the necklace back, yes, but I don't want the people here thinking I'm...I'm some sort of criminal.

Besides, now you know and it's not like it's gonna happen again without you knowing that's on the table.

You can't be everywhere at once.

I should be, for his sake. It's why I'm here, isn't it?
