Hi Mason, this is Gwen Stacy, your temporary Warden. I was wondering if maybe you wanted to meet up some time, get to know each other a little bit? You're my first Inmate assignment, but I've got a lot of ideas and I'm really looking forward to getting to know you and work with you.
Let me know when you'd like to meet!

[ Gwen, as she's been taken to doing most days since she arrived here, will most likely be found in the library on the fifth level, reading and taking notes on whatever's managed to catch her interest that day. studying, yes, just for the sake of doing so. there might not be any exams here, but she's still interested in learning, still wants to keep herself sharp. if she were at home, she'd have a very NO INTERRUPTIONS, PLEASE vibe going on about her, deeply focused on her books, but here she's gotten into the habit of looking up every once in a while, seeing who else spends their time here and seeing how they choose to utilize it. it's interesting!
either that or she'll be in the cafeteria getting her meal on, and most times she'll be there with Peter Parker, but sometimes she heads down alone, just to grab a snack. which is probably some form of chocolate, if she can get her hands on it. she's most likely sitting alone, like a loner geek kid at school, because that's totally what she is. and she's fine with that. but seriously, come sit with her, she would like company more than she'd ever admit. ]

[Work helps. She prepares lunch with Ben and Mira, and, in doing so, in the cocoon of habit, feels very nearly safe as houses. She helps serve sometimes, too, and when she does she learns the new faces.]
[Gwen shows up so often, and always seems to be smiling. Abigail doesn't trust it. But she is trying to dive into the jaws of the lion, and sometimes the lion is . . . other girls, girls like Marissa, girls like Gwen.]
[So she shows up at Gwen's table as lunch starts clearing out, her fingers trailing against the table's edge as she glances sideways in a questioning way.]
Are you leaving? [Or can she sit?]
no subject
Should I be?
[ she recognizes her as one of the Inmates that helps serve lunch, so maybe she's asking on a professional level! or something. but yeahno that's ridiculous, and Gwen's nose scrunches up as she shakes her head, making it obvious she realized she misread her ]
You can sit here, if you want to. I'm not waiting for anyone.

[She does boggle a little at the question.]
No? I mean, it's everybody's table.
[With a wary sideways look, she slides into the seat across from Gwen and folds her hands.]
You're Gwen. You're new.
no subject
That's right.
[ oh hey she's not the only one that cruises the network but doesn't always actually respond to the things she sees on there. ]
And you're the girl who doesn't want to hide anymore.
[ that's what she remembers, that's what sticks out. though she sounds more impressed than anything else, and there's no deliberate look down to her neck or anything - she's noticed the scar, and she isn't phased by it. maybe curious, and there's some part of her that will always be concerned when it comes to injuries or scars or whatever else, but it's not a big deal. not in a negative way, at least ]
I didn't catch your name.

[When she offers Gwen a smile, now, it's almost genuine.]
That's right.
Abigail Hobbs.
The other thing you called me was okay, though.

[ and then Gwen decided to give Abigail the nickname "Beyoncé" because she's a survivor, she ain't gon' give up~!
but no really, she's pretty darn pleased with the grin she got from the other girl, because first impressions- they're important, they really are. especially in a place like this. no one really has a reason to trust anyone, not right off the bat. it's kind of the nature of this place, she's come to realize. they're not all here with the happy ideas that she has, that people show up to help others or be helped, so. knowing that the next new person she meets might hate being here, or resent her for being a Warden, or something-
it's a relief, yeah. that smile. she'll take it. ]
It's kind of weird, isn't it, being in the cafeteria on this boat? It's like being back at school, only there aren't any bells or people being wildly choosey about who gets to sit with them. [ a pause ] Well, maybe some people are. That table over there looks pretty exclusive.
[ she nods to her left, which is a full table compared to their table with just the two of them, but it doesn't actually look exclusive. they aren't even all talking to each other. she still makes a face like "pssht, popular kids", but it's in jest ]

[She finds her grin widening at Gwen's joke, which is . . . weird. And by weird, she means normal. Most of her jokes lately are morbid and barbed, but Gwen's just nice. At least she seems like it.]
[What does Abigail even do with that. Besides roll her eyes and play along.]
I never wanted to be in a cafeteria again. It's really weird. The same old politics, only it's in space prison. Like, maybe they're trying to establish normalcy or something, but it's just bizarre.
Then again, by this analogy I'm a lunch lady, too, which is even more bizarre.

Hey, you should be proud, as a lunch lady of this particular cafeteria. The food is pretty great.

[She ducks her head, smiling at the surface of the table.]
Ben's teaching me how to cook. But he still does most of the work.
